Among additional honors with the Cowboys, Dorsett served as team captain in ’81,’82 and’84. He was voted to the Pro Bowl in ’78,’81, ’82 and 83. In 1981, he earned consensus All-Pro honors and was named NFC Player of the Year by UPI. He played in his second Super Bowl with the Cowboys in 1979.
     

Dorsett’s final year in pro football was with the Denver Broncos in 1989. In his 12 seasons of NFL play, Dorsett missed only six games. His career totals include 12,739 yards rushing, 398 receptions for 3,544 yards, 16,326 combined net yards and 90 touchdowns.

1994 was a proud year for Dorsett when his career accomplishments earned him multiple honors. He was inducted into the prestigious Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honor and then elected to both the College Football Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Dorsett has retired from professional football, but he has hardly slowed down. Since leaving the game, he has never left the limelight. From television, to film, to the Internet, Tony Dorsett has remained in the public eye. Some of his television credits include Entertainment Tonight and The Young and the Restless, and he frequently discusses the NFL on a number of network sports programs and websites. On the wide screen, he has appeared in two feature films: Necessary Roughness and Kill Zone.

 
 

Dorsett recognizes that his career in sports and the resulting celebrity status come with some responsibility. He willingly gives back to communities in both Texas and Pennsylvania. Charities he has supported over the years include the American Heart association, United Negro College Fund, Special Olympics, Make a Wish Foundation, and The McGuire Memorial Foundation among others.

     

From star athlete, to TV star, to movie star, to a brighter star in the eyes of the charities he supports, Tony Dorsett remains one of the most celebrated and enduring sports celebrities in the world today.
